Abitare Mokka - Prefabricated living unit
The proposal that follows ,tries to answer the requirement of having a mobile home adapted to be lived in for long duration even in hostile climatic conditions .The unit could host with ease at least one family of 3-4 persons. To be reassuring, the unit will have inside, functional parts fixed to guarantee preparation of food and for resolving physical and hygienic needs .The unit will be easy to install and dis-install therefore being economically favourable. A single unit will be sufficient for all of the above described requirements .
I have thought of giving this project the name 'MOKKA' with explicit reference to the famous coffee making machine . Mokka for us Italians is one of those objects that has the capacity to create homely intimacy no matter where you use it. Therefore, Mokka is synonymous with simplicity, reliability, robustness and above all usefulness.
The value derived from the word 'MOKKA' together with the phrase 'to live' defines with relative precision the proposal of the project .
The measurements of MOKKA for transportation purpose are that of a commercial container of 40 feet ,like "high cube" which corresponds to 2,896 meters therefore making it possible to transport it by air, sea, train or by truck .During its use, MOKKA, is arranged with two lateral volumes that widens the central part, the two volumes in question moves to one side to create a central space of 8x4 meters, sufficient to accommodate the living room of the module. The fixed parts towards the two extremes of the module, about 2 meters in length, contains the fixed functional parts of the bath and kitchen. The structure of MOKKA has been conceptualised in such a way that it is able to be placed side by side and overlapping on two levels , this allows to create a high density nuclei concurring with the single module to conserve a discreet independence, due to the fact that the openings (door and window) are not aligned with the front exterior .From the construction point of view MOKKA has been arranged with the main structure in strong steel that comprises of the upper side and the front part, meanwhile the sides both the fixed and the one that moves are made of material in plastic with structure in aluminium for the part that moves. The module utilizes between the gaps big width insulation of high quality to permit the module to be utilized in hostile climatic ambience.
